After his powerful two-hour address in the Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to speak in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. The Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die following the PM’s speech on July 2, while the Rajya Sabha will continue the debate on the motion of thanks for the President’s Address to both Houses of Parliament on July 3.
Expectations are high for heated exchanges between ruling and opposition MPs in the Rajya Sabha during PM Modi’s address on Wednesday. During his speech in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, opposition MPs continuously shouted slogans, creating a charged atmosphere.
Despite the disruptions from the opposition MPs chanting ‘Justice for Manipur’ and ‘Bharat Jodo,’ PM Modi forged ahead with his speech in the Lok Sabha. Accusing the Congress and its ‘ecosystem’ of disrespecting Hindus and hatching a ‘conspiracy’ to wrongfully portray Hindus as violent, the PM did not waver.
Calling for strict action in response to the events of Monday, PM Modi denounced the disruption as a ‘slap on the wisdom of our people and our great national traditions.’ In a veiled reference to Rahul Gandhi’s speech on July 1, the Prime Minister highlighted the serious nature of the allegations made against the BJP.
Rahul Gandhi, in his inaugural address as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, used posters of religious figures, including Lord Shiva, as a means to criticize the ruling party. Portions of his speech were later expunged from the parliamentary records on July 2.
The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha commenced on June 24, with 539 members taking oath or making affirmation over the initial two days of proceedings. The Rajya Sabha is also expected to be adjourned sine die following PM Modi’s address on Wednesday.
