Bangladeshi Pacer Taskin Ahmed Clarifies Controversy During T20 World Cup
New Delhi: Bangladeshi pacer Taskin Ahmed found himself at the center of a controversy during the T20 World Cup when he was allegedly dropped from the crucial Super Eights clash against India due to oversleeping and missing the team bus. However, the player refuted these claims, stating that his exclusion was based on team combination reasons.
The incident took place on June 22 in North Sound, Antigua, where Bangladesh suffered a defeat against India. The Tigers made a single change in their playing XI, replacing Taskin with Jaker Ali.
In an interview with the Dhaka-based newspaper Ajker Patrika, Taskin Ahmed clarified his stance on the matter, admitting to being late but asserting that he arrived at the ground before the toss.
Despite Taskin’s apology, veteran all-rounder and former captain Shakib Al Hasan mentioned that the late arrival made it challenging for him to be selected for the match.
The incident did not result in any fine being imposed on Taskin, as reported. Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hassan confirmed that Taskin missed the team bus but arrived at the ground late.
It was an unintentional mistake, and the matter was resolved amicably within the team.
