Gautam Gambhir appointed as the Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team
Former India opener Gautam Gambhir has expressed his joy upon being named the head coach of the Indian cricket team. Gambhir, who played a significant role in India’s 2011 ODI World Cup victory, emphasized that serving his nation is the greatest honor he has ever experienced.
The 42-year-old Gambhir takes over from the legendary Rahul Dravid, who led the team to the T20 World Cup title in Barbados last month. “India is my identity and serving my country has been the greatest privilege of my life. I’m honored to be back, albeit in a different role. My goal remains the same – to make every Indian proud. The men in blue carry the dreams of 1.4 billion Indians, and I will do everything in my power to make those dreams a reality!” Gambhir tweeted.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah welcomed Gambhir’s appointment, stating, “It is with immense pleasure that I welcome Mr. Gautam Gambhir as the new Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team.” Shah highlighted Gambhir’s vast experience and clear vision for Team India, making him the ideal candidate for the role.
Gambhir also expressed his appreciation for Rahul Dravid and his support staff for their exceptional performance with the team. In a statement released by the BCCI, Gambhir said, “It is an absolute honor to serve my tricolor, my people, my country. I congratulate Rahul Dravid and his team for their exemplary run with the team. I am honored and excited to take on the role of Head Coach for Team India.”
Looking ahead, Gambhir is eager to work closely with VVS Laxman, the BCCI’s Head of Cricket, to lead the Indian team towards success in upcoming tournaments. “I have always taken pride in wearing the Indian jersey during my playing days, and that pride continues as I take on this new role. I look forward to working with the BCCI, the support staff, and most importantly, the players, as we strive for success in future tournaments.”
