Apple, the California-based tech giant, has made significant strides in its manufacturing operations in India, producing a whopping $14 billion worth of iPhones in the last fiscal year. This move is part of Apple’s strategic plan to diversify its production beyond China and could potentially include iPads and AirPods in its Indian manufacturing portfolio.
Recent reports suggest that Apple is revisiting its plans to manufacture iPads in India and is actively searching for a local manufacturing partner.
Following a previous setback with China-based BYD regarding iPad production, Apple is now looking to partner with an Indian manufacturer to kickstart the production. Additionally, Apple is gearing up to start manufacturing AirPods in India by early 2025.
Apple is also working on boosting the production of components for AirPods wireless charging cases through collaborations with Jabil and potentially Foxconn in India. The Indian government is reportedly encouraging Apple to expand its manufacturing footprint to include laptops and desktops in the future.
With the help of Foxconn and Tata Electronics, Apple has already shifted a significant portion of its iPhone assembly to India. This strategic move aligns with India’s goal of becoming a global manufacturing hub and reduces Apple’s reliance on Chinese factories.
Apple’s commitment to diversifying its supply chain and mitigating geopolitical risks is evident in its shift towards Indian manufacturing. This aligns with India’s aspirations and showcases Apple’s ambition to establish an alternative supply chain in the country.
