Welcome Kohli Family’s Celebration of T20 World Cup Victory
NEW DELHI: The Indian cricket sensation, Virat Kohli, arrived in Delhi on Thursday morning and wasted no time in celebrating the historic T20 World Cup win with his family. India clinched the T20 World Cup title for the second time by defeating South Africa by seven runs in a thrilling final held in Barbados on Saturday.
Amidst the celebrations, Kohli also announced his retirement from the shortest format of the game. Despite a slow start in the tournament, Kohli’s performance reached its peak in crucial moments. He played a stellar innings of 76 runs off 59 deliveries in the final, including six boundaries and two sixes at a strike rate of 128.81.
Over the course of the tournament, Kohli amassed 151 runs in eight innings with an average of 18.87 and a strike rate of 112.68, including a crucial half-century.
The celebratory moments were shared by Kohli’s sister, Bhawna Kohli Dhingra, on Instagram, where she expressed her pride by writing, “Celebrating the win SUPERPROUD.” The posts also received likes from Anushka Sharma, Kohli’s wife and a renowned actress.
Upon their return to Delhi, the Indian team was greeted with enthusiasm by fans eager to welcome the champions and catch a glimpse of the coveted trophy. The team’s journey back from Barbados was delayed due to Hurricane Beryl, a category four hurricane, which forced the closure of Grantley Adams International Airport in Bridgetown for three days.
Organized by BCCI secretary Jay Shah, the flight carrying the team, support staff, their families, and members of the media took off on July 2 and landed early Thursday morning in Delhi.
The victory in the final marked the end of a 13-year wait for an ICC trophy for India, with key performances from Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah, with 15 wickets at an economy rate of 4.17, was named the ‘Player of the Tournament.’
To celebrate the triumph, led by Rohit Sharma, the team will partake in an open-top bus parade in Mumbai, passing through Marine Drive and the iconic Wankhede Stadium, starting at 5:00 pm. Fans are invited to join in the celebrations and honor the team’s achievement in winning the prestigious T20 World Cup.
