India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav faced a setback as he suffered a hand injury while fielding for Mumbai in the Buchi Babu tournament against Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) XI. The severity of the injury is yet to be determined, but it raises concerns for the aggressive batsman with the upcoming Duleep Trophy scheduled to start on September 5. A serious injury could potentially hinder his chances of making a comeback to the Test team.
Suryakumar Yadav, who had only one Test appearance against Australia in February last year, was eager to impress the selectors in the red-ball format during the match against TNCA XI in Coimbatore. However, Mumbai’s struggle in the match reflected in their score of 156 in response to TNCA XI’s 379, putting them in a difficult position with a target of 510 to win.
Despite the challenges, Suryakumar Yadav remains optimistic about his prospects in the Duleep Trophy. He is part of Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Team C squad and is looking forward to the upcoming Test matches in India’s international season at home.
India’s home season kicks off with a two-Test series against Bangladesh in September-October, providing an opportunity for players like Suryakumar Yadav to showcase their skills and stake a claim for a spot in the Test team.
