Welcome to the world of profitable growth with PhonePe!

In a recent announcement, PhonePe revealed that it has reached a significant milestone by turning profitable excluding costs related to employee stock options (Esops) in FY24. The company reported a Profit After Tax (PAT) of Rs 197 crore during the year, showcasing a remarkable turnaround from losses of Rs 738 crore in FY23. The surge in revenues to Rs 5,064 crore in FY24 from Rs 2,914 crore in FY23 reflects a remarkable year-on-year growth of 74%.

The standalone payments business of PhonePe recorded an adjusted PAT of Rs 710 crore in FY24, compared to losses of Rs 194 crore in FY23, marking a significant improvement in financial performance. The achievement of both top-line growth and sustainable bottom-line improvement is attributed to PhonePe’s focus on driving operating leverage through automation and cost efficiencies.

Valued at $12 billion, PhonePe is preparing to go public in the coming years. As a leader in the unified payments interface (UPI) market with close to 50% share, PhonePe has been expanding its presence beyond payments to diversify its revenue streams. The company has ventured into segments like insurance, merchant lending, and even stock broking with its own app Share.Market.

Founder & CEO Sameer Nigam expressed his optimism about the future, stating, “We believe a focus on disciplined financial management will help us continue the progression towards profitability of our Payments business, which by itself is a unique feat in the Indian context. By optimizing investments, capital allocation, building a diversified revenue model, and remaining customer-focused, we aim to establish a solid foundation for sustained future success.”

In a strategic move, PhonePe shifted its domicile to India from Singapore in 2022 and completed its separation from Flipkart, positioning itself for further growth and expansion in the dynamic fintech landscape.
