Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Hits Back at Congress Amid NEET-UG Row
Amidst ongoing protests over the NEET-UG row, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched a scathing attack on the Congress on Monday. This came shortly after Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi criticized the Narendra Modi-led government in Lok Sabha. The Supreme Court also continued hearing various petitions related to the issue, including demands for cancellation, re-tests, and a court-monitored probe.
During a meeting of top Congress leaders to strategize for the Budget Session, a strong stand was pledged to raise the NEET-UG issue prominently in the coming days.
Pradhan’s Strong Words
In response to Rahul Gandhi’s criticisms, Pradhan questioned the Congress Party’s lack of action on implementing laws to prevent malpractices in educational institutions. He specifically mentioned the Prohibition of Unfair Practices Bill, 2010, and challenged the LoP to explain why such laws were not brought forward during their tenure.
Pradhan also took to social media to hint at revelations regarding paper leaks during the UPA regime, suggesting potential accountability for Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav.
Gandhi’s Criticisms
On his part, Rahul Gandhi accused Pradhan of evading responsibility and failing to address the serious flaws in the Indian examination system. He lamented the lack of accountability and systemic issues that allow for malpractices.
During a heated exchange in the Lok Sabha, Gandhi challenged Pradhan to take concrete steps to address the systemic issues plaguing the examination system.
Pradhan’s Defense
In response, Pradhan refuted claims of widespread paper leaks in recent years, pushing back against allegations made by Congress members. He expressed disappointment at the characterization of the examination system as ‘rubbish’ and emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the integrity of exams.
As the debate rages on, it remains to be seen how the NEET-UG row will unfold in the coming days.
