Bollywood actress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut has stirred up a controversy by requesting people in her Mandi constituency to bring their Aadhaar Cards when meeting her. The acclaimed ‘Queen’ actor has also asked visitors to jot down the purpose of their meeting on a piece of paper.
Ranaut explained that due to the high influx of tourists and outsiders at her office, she has enforced this rule. She assured that she will be available to meet with constituents at a designated dialogue center during her time in Mandi, the constituency she represents in Lok Sabha, Himachal Pradesh.
“Himachal Pradesh attracts a significant number of tourists, hence the necessity of an Aadhaar card from the Mandi area. It is important for the purpose of the meeting to be clearly stated in the letter to avoid any inconvenience,” expressed Ranaut during her visit to Mandi.
During a public interaction on July 11, Ranaut emphasized her role as an MP in addressing national-level issues rather than local matters. She encouraged constituents to bring forward only those issues that align with her responsibilities as a Member of Parliament, ensuring her efforts are focused on impactful matters.
Congress reacts
Ranaut’s unconventional directive has triggered a political backlash, with Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh criticizing her actions. “It is not appropriate for a public representative to mandate that constituents must present their Aadhaar card to meet her,” Singh stated.
Kangana Ranaut emerged victorious against Vikramaditya Singh, son of former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, in the Mandi Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Singh currently serves as the PWD minister in Congress-ruled Himachal Pradesh.
Actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut made headlines last month when she was reportedly slapped by a CISF personnel at the Chandigarh Airport. Recent social media posts suggest that Kulwinder Kaur, the CISF constable involved, has now been reinstated at Bengaluru Airport.
