The Aftermath of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections: BJP Task Force Report Reveals Insights

It has been a month since the results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections were announced, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been reeling from the poor show in Uttar Pradesh. In a significant development, the party’s task force recently submitted its report to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, shedding light on the reasons behind the decline in BJP’s performance in the state.

The numbers speak for themselves – BJP’s seat count in Uttar Pradesh decreased to 33 in 2024 from 62 in 2019, causing concerns within the party.

Following the submission of the report, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took swift action by transferring 12 district magistrates (DMs) in the state. The reshuffling mainly targeted districts where BJP faced defeat in the recent polls, signaling a strategic move to address the party’s shortcomings.

The shuffled DMs hailed from districts such as Sitapur, Banda, Basti, Shrawasti, Kaushambi, Sambhal, Saharanpur, Moradabad, and Hathras. Additionally, DMs from Kasganj, Chitrakoot, and Auraiya were also reassigned to different roles.

Delving deeper into the report, it highlighted key factors contributing to BJP’s lackluster performance in Uttar Pradesh. Issues like ‘odd’ ticket distribution, the Opposition’s ‘Threat to Constitution’ narrative, and the shift of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) vote base to the Samajwadi Party (SP) were identified as prime reasons for BJP’s setbacks.

Quoting a party functionary familiar with the task force’s findings, “Humein to apno ne loota, gairo mein kahaan dum tha, humari kashti bhi wahan doobi jahan paani kam tha…” The official further emphasized that BJP’s decline was not merely a stroke of fate but rather a meticulously orchestrated script.

Addressing the internal dynamics, the report underscored internal dissent as a significant factor behind BJP’s decline. Issues related to ticket distribution and dissatisfaction within the Thakur community were cited as key sources of discontent within the party.

As BJP navigates through this challenging phase post-elections, the insights provided by the task force report offer valuable lessons and strategic directions for the party leaders to regroup and reposition themselves for future electoral battles.
