The Curious Case of Taskin Ahmed: Oversleeping and Missed Calls
In a surprising turn of events, Bangladesh’s vice-captain and pacer Taskin Ahmed found himself in hot water ahead of the T20 World Cup clash against India. A top Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official confirmed that Taskin overslept and failed to pick up calls, causing a stir within the team.
The BCB official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, revealed that Taskin was unreachable before the crucial game against India. Consequently, Taskin was left out of the playing XI, with only two pacers being utilized by Bangladesh. Speculations arose about a possible rift between Taskin and the head coach, leading to his exclusion.
“It is true that he (Taskin) joined the team later after missing the team bus,” the official disclosed. “But whether he was part of the coach’s plan or not remains a mystery only the head coach can unravel.”
Dispelling rumors of a strained relationship between Taskin and the coach, the official emphasized that such incidents should not be blown out of proportion. Taskin reportedly apologized to his teammates and everyone involved for his oversight, putting the issue to rest.
The fallout from Taskin’s absence was felt on the field as India emerged victorious by a significant margin of 50 runs in Antigua. Despite the loss, Bangladesh failed to secure a spot in the tournament’s semifinals, ultimately won by India against South Africa.
