Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is gaining momentum in the US Vice Presidential race, surpassing his rival, Ohio Senator JD Vance, in popularity among American voters. Recent polls show Walz with a net positive rating of nine points, while Vance lags behind with a negative 10 net favorability rating.
In a survey conducted by Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos, 39% of Americans hold a favorable impression of Walz, compared to 32% for Vance. This data highlights the growing support for Governor Walz as the election approaches.
The anticipation for the upcoming Vice Presidential debate on October 1 is building, as both candidates prepare to face off on national television. This event will give voters a chance to hear directly from Walz and Vance on important issues affecting the country.
Although Walz holds a strong lead among Democrats with a plus 72 rating, he faces a more competitive landscape among Independents and swing voters, where he still maintains a slight advantage over Vance. This indicates a broad appeal for Walz across different political spectrums.
Approval ratings for Donald Trump’s choice of running mate and Kamala Harris’s selection are also reflected in the poll results. While 45% approve of Trump’s choice, only 50% disapprove of Vance. In contrast, Harris’s pick is met with 52% approval and 44% disapproval, showing a higher level of support for the Democratic ticket.
Senator Vance has faced criticism for past controversial remarks, but has received backing from Trump and fellow Republicans. Governor Walz, on the other hand, has been instrumental in uniting Democrats behind the Harris-Walz ticket. Despite being lesser known to the general public, Walz’s growing popularity signals a strong potential for success in the election.
