Boost in Oil and Gas Production as ONGC Brings on Stream Fifth Well
Exciting news in the oil and gas industry as ONGC’s $5-billion project off the Andhra coast sees a rise in production with the opening of the fifth well in the deepsea KG-D5 block. This move is set to not only boost revenue but also contribute towards reducing the country’s import dependence.
The oil well, which was opened on Saturday, marks a significant milestone for the state-run explorer. The company announced this development in a stock exchange filing on Sunday, without specifying the production rate. Leveraging the floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel, ONGC has initiated the transportation and sale of associated gas. Additionally, the company is committed to achieving zero gas flaring, demonstrating its dedication to sustainable practices.
The export link between the offshore facility and the onland receiving terminal has also been commissioned, further streamlining the production process. Oil production from the project, which includes 13 wells for oil and seven for gas, commenced in January. To ensure reservoir health and avoid any geological challenges, the company plans to gradually open the remaining wells.
Peak production from the project is expected to reach 45,000 barrels of oil per day and over 10 million standard cubic meters per day of gas. The current production stands at 12,000 barrels of oil per day and 0.4 million standard cubic meters per day of gas.
This significant development in ONGC’s project signifies a positive trajectory for the oil and gas sector in India, paving the way for increased self-sufficiency and reduced import reliance.
