COVID-19 Outbreak at Democratic National Convention Sparks Concern
Recently, several attendees of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago have tested positive for Covid-19, just days after the event, as reported by the New York Post.
The four-day convention was attended by thousands, including Vice President Kamala Harris, who accepted the presidential nomination, and Tim Walz, who accepted the vice-presidential candidate nomination.
Some of the reporters present at the event shared their positive Covid-19 test results on social media. Christopher Wiggins, a senior national reporter, expressed his disappointment on platform X, saying, “When you spend five days in Chicago for the DNC and come home with Covid-19. Womp womp.”
Human rights lawyer Yasmine Taeb also shared her experience, stating, “Indeed. I arrived at the DNC healthy and hopeful and left very sick and disillusioned.”
Even Fred Wellman, the host of the ‘On Democracy Pod’ podcast, highlighted the irony of the situation, saying, “Oh man! I brought home so much sweet swag from the DNC! Coffee mugs, stickers, t-shirts, posters, buttons, bags, pins, and….Covid! SWEET!”
Many people took to social media to share their reactions to this unfortunate turn of events.
This year’s convention marked the first major, in-person Democratic event since 2016, as the 2020 convention had to go virtual due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It was noted that some attendees at the DNC were seen wearing face masks, unlike the Republican National Convention where no attendees were reportedly masked.
