The Truth Behind Vinesh Phogat’s Alleged Cash Prize
NEW DELHI: Vinesh Phogat recently made headlines not just for her prowess in the wrestling arena, but also due to alleged reports of receiving a massive cash prize post her disqualification from the women’s 50kg freestyle wrestling final at the Paris Olympics.
Speculations claimed that Vinesh had been the recipient of over Rs 16 crore from various organizations. However, her husband, Somvir Rathee, has come forward to debunk these claims, terming them as baseless.
Rathee took to social media to set the record straight, asserting, “Vinesh Phogat has not received any money from the mentioned entities. We urge our well-wishers not to propagate false news as it not only harms us but also erodes societal values. This is merely a ploy for cheap attention.”
The couple’s response aims to quash the unfounded rumors circulating, emphasizing the importance of honesty and integrity in the dissemination of information.
This clarification comes amidst a trying phase for Vinesh, who faced disqualification from the Paris Olympics for being marginally overweight. The disqualification cost her the chance to vie for a gold medal and led to a failed appeal for a joint silver at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Despite the setback, Vinesh’s return to India was met with warm reception from fans and family at the Delhi airport, where she was visibly touched by the outpouring of support.
Recently, Vinesh was seen celebrating Raksha Bandhan with her brother, offering a glimpse of happiness amidst the recent adversity.
