The US Secret Service Investigation into the Assassination Attempt on Former President Donald Trump
The recent investigation into the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump has led to significant actions by the US Secret Service. According to Fox News, at least five agents, including the head of the Pittsburgh field office, have been placed on leave as part of this ongoing investigation.
Nearly six weeks after the incident, it has been revealed that one member of Trump’s personal protective team and four agents from the Pittsburgh Field Office, including the special agent in charge, have been placed on administrative leave. This comes after a security lapse allowed Thomas Matthew Crooks to fire multiple shots from a nearby building.
The Secret Service is actively looking into this breach in security that led to the shooting. Former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned from her position less than two weeks after the incident, following her initial testimony to Congress.
During the shooting, multiple shots were fired from an elevated position outside the rally venue, resulting in the death of one spectator and critical injuries to two others. The shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was also killed, but further details about the incident remain undisclosed.
FBI officials revealed that Crooks accessed the roof of the AGR building by climbing HVAC equipment and piping before moving across rooftops to position himself for the attack. On the day of the rally, he also flew a drone near the event site.
At a congressional hearing on July 17, FBI Director Christopher Wray testified that Crooks had been present at the rally site for approximately 70 minutes before the attack occurred. Despite being shot in the ear during the chaos, Trump, 78, emerged to rally supporters, defiantly pumping his fist and shouting, “Fight! Fight! Fight!”
This shocking incident took place less than four months before the November 5 election, where Trump is expected to face Democratic candidate Kamala Harris following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race.
