India Head Coach Rahul Dravid Optimistic About Team’s Performance in ICC Finals
NEW DELHI: As the outgoing India head coach, Rahul Dravid, prepares to pass on the baton, he commended the team’s exceptional consistency in reaching three ICC finals within the past year. Dravid expressed his optimism that a combination of intelligent gameplay and favorable luck would propel India to secure a long-awaited ICC championship.
During the current T20 World Cup, India has showcased their dominance, reflecting their performance in the ODI World Cup held in their home country the previous year. However, they faced a stumbling block in the final against Australia in that tournament.
Now, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, India is set to take on South Africa in the final at Barbados’ Kensington Oval. The team is determined to clinch an ICC title, a feat they last achieved during the 2013 Champions Trophy.
“It is a good thing we have been consistently playing good cricket. We have been in finals in all three formats, and credit goes to the players. If we play well and rub of the green goes our way, we will surely win,” Dravid said, as quoted by PTI.
As the final approaches, athletes often experience heightened pressure. However, with just a 24-hour gap between the semifinal and final, India has limited opportunities for mental preparation. Despite the swift journey from Guyana to Barbados after their semifinal victory against England, Dravid expressed confidence in the team’s mental readiness for the upcoming contest.
Dravid emphasized the importance of physical, mental, and tactical preparedness for the crucial encounter. He highlighted the team’s efforts to ensure they are fresh, injury-free, and mentally relaxed for the game.
In 2023, India faced heartbreaking losses in ICC finals against Australia in both the World Test Championship (WTC) final and the ODI World Cup final. Dravid acknowledged these setbacks, stating that the other team also deserves to win and the best team on the day will emerge victorious.
Dravid praised the team’s collective effort in preparing for this prestigious event, highlighting their adaptability in various situations. He expressed confidence in their ability to adapt to different conditions, as demonstrated in their performances throughout the tournament.
India’s resilience and capacity to bounce back from setbacks were also highlighted by Dravid, showing faith in the team’s ability to perform at their best in the final against South Africa.
As the final showdown approaches, the cricketing world awaits an exciting battle between two top teams vying for the coveted ICC title. With both teams prepared and determined, the stage is set for a thrilling encounter that promises great cricketing action.
