Bihar’s former deputy chief minister, Tejaswi Yadav, has recently made headlines for slamming Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, calling him the ‘Chinese version of Yogi’. This comes after Sarma announced the elimination of the ‘Jummah Break’, a 2-hour break given to people who follow Islam for their Friday prayers, also known as ‘Namaz’.
Tejaswi Yadav did not hold back in his criticism of the Assam CM, alleging that Sarma continuously engages in acts that target and harass Muslims.
“The people of BJP have singled out our Muslim brothers as an easy target to sow hatred, gain the attention of Modi-Shah, and polarize society,” Tejaswi Yadav expressed on social media.
Yadav further emphasized the contributions of Muslims to the independence of the country, stating, “Our Muslim brothers have made sacrifices for the freedom of our nation, and as long as we stand together, no harm can come to them.”
BJP Responds to Tejaswi Yadav
The BJP countered Tejaswi Yadav’s statements, criticizing him for his remarks about Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. They accused Yadav of reflecting a ‘racist mentality’ similar to other INDIA bloc leaders.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla noted similarities between Yadav’s comments and those made by India Overseas Congress Chairman Sam Pitroda, suggesting that a racist mindset is prevalent within the INDIA bloc.
Poonawalla questioned whether leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Gaurav Gogoi endorsed such divisive and unconstitutional remarks. He called out Yadav for his alleged racist comments and urged him to reconsider his stance.
Himanta Biswa Sarma also responded to Tejaswi Yadav’s criticism, challenging him to implement similar practices in Bihar before passing judgment. Sarma questioned Yadav’s record during his time as deputy chief minister.
The clash between the INDIA bloc and BJP escalated following Assam’s decision to remove the Jumma break for Friday prayers. The controversy surrounding this rule change continues to stir debate and division.
