The Rise of Jay Shah: From BCCI Secretary to ICC Chairman
MUMBAI: The cricketing world is buzzing with excitement as BCCI secretary, Jay Shah, takes the helm as the new chairman of the International Cricket Council. At just 35 years old, Shah is the youngest-ever to hold this prestigious position.
Cricket legend, Sunil Gavaskar, expressed his optimism for the future of the game under Shah’s leadership, stating, “it won’t be a surprise if the world game flourishes even more during his term as the ICC chairman.”
Reflecting on Shah’s tenure as BCCI secretary since 2019, Gavaskar highlighted his significant contributions to Indian cricket. “He was instrumental in launching the Women’s Premier League, equalizing the fees for Indian women cricketers with the men’s team, increasing pensions for retired players, introducing incentives for participating in international matches, and implementing prize money for domestic tournaments,” Gavaskar praised.
Gavaskar continued, “The new state-of-the-art National Cricket Academy in Bangalore is also a testament to his dedication to the sport.”
“With all these accomplishments, it’s no wonder that the world of cricket is set to thrive under Shah’s leadership as the ICC chairman,” Gavaskar concluded.
