The Latest Blow for Sri Lanka: Hasaranga Ruled Out with Injury
Hosts Sri Lanka received a setback ahead of the second ODI against India, as their star spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of the remainder of the three-match series due to a left hamstring injury.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) confirmed the news in a press release on Saturday, stating, “He experienced pain in his left hamstring while delivering the last ball of his 10th over during the first ODI. An MRI performed on the player, following this, confirmed the injury.”
Legspinner Jeffrey Vandersay will replace Hasaranga in the Sri Lankan squad.
Hasaranga joins a list of Sri Lankan players missing the white-ball matches against India. Dushmantha Chameera and Nuwan Thushara were ruled out ahead of the T20I series due to a respiratory illness and thumb injury, respectively. India went on to win the T20I series 3-0.
Further injuries were revealed with Dilshan Madushanka’s hamstring issue and Matheesha Pathirana’s shoulder injury, keeping them out of the ODI series.
The first ODI at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo ended dramatically in a tie as both teams finished at 230. Hasaranga performed well with three wickets (3 for 58) in the match.
India, needing just a run to win, lost their last two wickets off consecutive balls with more than two overs left to be bowled. The stage is now set for the second ODI scheduled for Sunday.
