The BCB Takes a Stand: Shakib Al Hasan to Play Despite Legal Troubles
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has made a bold decision regarding star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s future in the national team. Despite being involved in a First Information Report related to a murder case, the BCB has announced that Shakib will continue to play for Bangladesh until proven guilty.
Initially, the BCB had planned to wait until after the opening Test against Pakistan to make a decision on Shakib’s future. However, things took a legal turn when prominent lawyer Shajib Mahmood Alam sent a notice demanding Shakib’s immediate removal from cricket, citing ICC rules that state a player involved in a legal case should not be part of the national team.
BCB president Faruque Ahmed confirmed that Shakib will remain with the team, stating, “He [Shakib] will continue playing. We received a legal notice regarding bringing him back, and we replied to them saying this.” Ahmed emphasized that since Shakib has not been proven guilty, he will continue to represent Bangladesh.
Despite the ongoing legal issues, Shakib is set to fulfill his international and domestic commitments. After the Test series against Pakistan, he will play for Surrey in England, with the BCB granting him permission to participate in a county match against Somerset.
Looking ahead, Shakib is expected to rejoin the national squad for the upcoming series in India, where Bangladesh is scheduled to play two Tests and three T20Is. The BCB’s decision to stand by Shakib underscores a commitment to due process while keeping their focus on upcoming international fixtures.
