Reliance Industries Ltd Streamlines Workforce for Cost-Efficiency
In a strategic move towards cost-efficiency, Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has trimmed its workforce by 11% in the fiscal year 2024, with the retail segment witnessing the highest number of job cuts. According to the latest statement released by the company, the retail sector saw a significant reduction in employees, with the total number dropping from 245,581 in FY23 to 207,552 in FY24, representing about 60% of RIL’s workforce.
Similarly, Reliance Jio also experienced a decrease in its workforce, with employee numbers decreasing from 95,326 in FY23 to 90,067 in FY24. Despite this restructuring, the company emphasized that the overall voluntary separations in FY24 were lower than in the previous year.
Speaking on the restructuring, a broking firm analyst noted that the new lines of business at Reliance have matured and received substantial support from digital initiatives. This development has empowered them to manage operations more efficiently with optimal staff strength.
Reliance Retail, a flagship subsidiary of RIL, has been expanding its physical store network consistently. In FY23, they added over 3,300 new locations, bringing the total to 18,040 by the year’s end. By FY24, the store count had grown to 18,836, reflecting a net addition of around 800 stores after accounting for closures of unviable locations.
It is important to note that while the headcount reductions are part of the current cost management strategy, the company remains open to increasing staff numbers in response to new business opportunities and strategic changes. Reliance Industries Ltd continues to demonstrate its commitment to driving efficiency and adapting to the evolving market landscape.
