Rahul Gandhi’s Martial Arts Journey: A Glimpse at Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recently took to social media to share his experience with jiu-jitsu, a form of martial arts, during his last leg of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. He posted videos of the martial arts sessions held at campsites, emphasizing the importance of physical fitness and community engagement.
Dojo, which broadly refers to a training hall or school for martial arts, played a significant role in the yatra. Rahul Gandhi reflected on how the daily jiu-jitsu practice brought together fellow yatris and martial arts students, creating a sense of community and camaraderie.
The video showcases Rahul Gandhi, an Aikido black belt, and his trainer, Arun Sharma, a jiu-jitsu black belt, engaging in martial arts exercises throughout the 6,700+ km journey. They aimed to introduce children to the concept of the ‘Gentle Art,’ combining meditation, Jiu-Jitsu, Aikido, and non-violent conflict resolution techniques.
“Our goal was to instill in them the value of transforming violence into gentleness, creating a more compassionate and safer society,” Gandhi stated, highlighting the impact of martial arts on personal growth and societal harmony.
As the nation celebrated National Sports Day on August 29, commemorating the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, Gandhi encouraged others to embrace the practice of the “gentle art” for overall well-being and self-discipline.
Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, spanning over two months and covering various states, aimed to promote unity and social justice. The forthcoming “Bharat Dojo Yatra,” hinted by Gandhi, promises to further integrate martial arts into his national initiatives.
