Recently, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge made their way to Srinagar for a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir. Their main agenda is to assess the party’s preparations for the upcoming assembly polls in the Union Territory and explore potential alliances, particularly with the National Conference.
Joining them in Srinagar is RSS leader and former BJP general secretary, Ram Madhav, who has been appointed as the election in-charge for the upcoming Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir. His presence adds an interesting dynamic to the political landscape in the region.
The upcoming assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir are scheduled to take place in three phases, starting on September 18, followed by rounds on September 25 and October 1. The counting of votes is set for August 4, adding to the anticipation surrounding the elections.
Rahul and Kharge’s Dining Experience
Upon their arrival in Srinagar, Rahul and Kharge were greeted with enthusiasm by party activists and supporters. They enjoyed a meal at the iconic Ahdoos Hotel in Lal Chowk, known for its delicious Kashmiri Wazwan, a true culinary delight.
During their visit, Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to address a worker’s meeting in Srinagar and issue a press statement at a hotel, before heading to Jammu for further election-related meetings. This trip aims to gather feedback from party workers on grassroots-level preparations for the significant elections after a decade-long gap in the UT.
Additionally, the leaders are expected to engage with the National Conference (NC) leadership to explore potential pre-poll alliances, highlighting the importance of strategic partnerships in the political landscape.
Madhav’s Engagement
Meanwhile, Ram Madhav has been actively seeking feedback from various stakeholders during his time in Srinagar. Although he has not held formal meetings with BJP leadership in the region, his presence signifies a significant role in shaping the party’s strategy for the upcoming Assembly polls.
Sharing the responsibility of BJP’s election in-charge for the upcoming Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir with Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, Madhav plays a crucial role in shaping the party’s approach to the elections.
Returning to the region where he played a key role in forming an alliance government with the PDP in 2015, Madhav’s presence marks a significant moment in his return to active politics and the evolving political landscape in Jammu and Kashmir.
As the political dynamics in Jammu and Kashmir evolve, the visits of prominent leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Ram Madhav shed light on the strategic alliances and preparations leading up to the crucial Assembly polls in the region.
