India’s Tough Day at Paris Olympics: Near Misses in Badminton, Shooting, and Wrestling
India faced a tough day at the Paris Olympics with a series of near misses in badminton, shooting, and wrestling. Lakshya Sen missed a bronze medal in badminton, while Maheshwari Chauhan and Anant Jeet Singh Naruka fell short in the skeet mixed team event in shooting. Wrestler Nisha Dahiya also suffered an injury that dashed her hopes in the women’s freestyle category.
Sen, aiming to be India’s first male shuttler to win an Olympic medal, put up a strong fight against Malaysia’s world no.7 Lee Zii Jia in the bronze playoff but ultimately lost the match 21-13, 16-21, 11-21 after a grueling 71-minute contest.
"I had my chances in the second set and could have definitely done better. But credit to him, he played a really good game. I think at the moment I’m just not able to think right," said Sen after the match.
Meanwhile, in the shooting event, Maheshwari and Naruka narrowly missed out on a bronze medal in the skeet mixed team event, finishing fourth by just one point. The disappointment continued on the wrestling mat, where Nisha had a heartbreaking loss due to an injury.
On a brighter note, the women’s table tennis team of Manika Batra, Sreeja Akula, and Archana Kamath secured a spot in the quarterfinals by triumphing over higher-ranked Romania. The team showcased resilience and skill to clinch the victory and move forward in the competition.
In another historic moment, Avinash Sable became the first Indian man to qualify for the men’s 3000m steeplechase final at the Paris Olympics. His achievement marks a significant milestone for Indian men’s athletics.
The Indian hockey team is also on the verge of securing a second consecutive Olympic medal as they prepare to face reigning world champion Germany in the semifinals. A win in this crucial match would ensure at least a silver medal for India, a feat last achieved at the Rome Olympics in 1960.
Star athlete Neeraj Chopra will begin his campaign in javelin, aiming for a historic second Olympic gold. Chopra’s journey at the Olympics has been remarkable, and all eyes are on him as he looks to defend his title and make history for India once again.
As the Paris Olympics unfold, India’s athletes continue to display grit, determination, and resilience in pursuit of glory on the global stage. Stay tuned for more updates and memorable moments from the prestigious sporting event.
