Democratic strategist James Carville found himself at a loss for words when asked about RFK Jr’s surprising endorsement of Donald Trump in the upcoming 2024 election. The unexpected announcement came after Kennedy Jr decided to withdraw his independent candidacy and throw his support behind Trump.

Appearing on Real Time with Bill Maher, Carville and Maher discussed the shockwave that RFK Jr’s endorsement sent through the political world. Maher pointed out the irony of a Kennedy, a family historically associated with the Democratic party, endorsing one of the most controversial Republican figures in recent history.

Carville responded by saying, “RFK is a bit of an enigma. He’s not just weird, he’s downright wrong. To see a Kennedy align with someone like Trump is truly baffling.”

Kennedy Jr has previously spoken about a medical condition that affected his cognitive abilities in 2010. Describing it as a parasite that entered his brain and caused issues with memory and clarity, Kennedy Jr’s health struggles have been well-documented.

Trump wasted no time in accepting Kennedy Jr’s endorsement, promising to release all remaining documents related to the assassination of John F. Kennedy if elected. The Democratic National Committee, however, dismissed Kennedy Jr’s endorsement as a mere play for attention.

“He was recruited into the race by MAGA Republicans like Steve Bannon, he was propped up by Trump’s largest donor, and he parroted MAGA attacks on Democrats,” said DNC senior advisor Mary Beth Cahill. “The more voters learned about RFK Jr., the less they liked him.”
