India vs South Africa: Clash of the Titans in the T20 World Cup Final
The stage is set for the ultimate showdown in the 2024 T20 World Cup as India and South Africa, the two unbeaten teams, lock horns in the summit clash. While India is aiming to break an 11-year trophy drought, South Africa is looking to shed their ‘chokers’ tag and secure their maiden World Cup title.
However, the weather forecast seems to have other plans for the final scheduled to take place at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. According to Accuweather.com, there is a 51% chance of rain with a risk of thunderstorms disrupting the game.
Adding to the uncertainty, tropical storm Beryl is looming towards Barbados, which could further impact the match. Despite the looming weather conditions, ICC regulations state that a full 40-overs match will be played if there is a delay of no more than 60 minutes. This means that if the game kicks off at 9 PM IST, a complete match will proceed, with the overs being adjusted accordingly.
In case the match gets washed out, organizers have scheduled a reserve day for the final. If the game on June 29 is abandoned due to rain, the final will be rescheduled for June 30 at the same venue. The rain rules that apply to the original date will also be in effect for the reserve day.
If, by a stroke of bad luck, the match cannot be completed on the reserve day as well, both India and South Africa will be declared joint winners of the tournament. This scenario is similar to the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy when India and Sri Lanka had to share the trophy.
So, as cricket fans eagerly await the highly-anticipated final, the weather gods seem to have a decisive role to play in determining the fate of the T20 World Cup champions. Let’s hope for clear skies and an uninterrupted match between these two cricketing giants as they battle it out for glory on the cricket field.
