Former Meta COO Sheryl Sandberg Invests in Bengaluru-based GenAI Startup
Exciting news from the Indian startup scene as former Meta Chief Operating Officer, Sheryl Sandberg, has reportedly made her second investment in Bengaluru-based GenAI startup, Simplismart. This investment is part of a $7 million funding round led by Accel, showcasing Sandberg’s continued interest in the growing Indian startup landscape, especially in the field of GenAI.
Simplismart, founded by Amritanshu Jain and Devansh Ghatak, both alumni of BITS Pilani, specializes in helping customers deploy GenAI models using their high-speed inference engine. This technology is available across different cloud providers, offering scalable and cost-effective solutions. The startup has previously received funding from Titan Capital, Shastra VC, and First Cheque in a seed round and boasts customers like Vodex, Dubverse, and Mobavenue.
According to sources, investors in Silicon Valley are actively exploring generative AI technologies, and Simplismart has caught their eye. The deal is expected to be announced soon, attracting attention to the innovative work being done by the startup.
Prior to co-founding Simplismart, Jain held machine learning engineering roles at Oracle and Capillary Technologies, while Ghatak worked in engineering roles at Avaamo and Google. Sandberg’s only known involvement in the Indian startup ecosystem was as a client of Iconiq Capital, a US investment management firm that has previously funded companies like Flipkart.
While Sandberg has not responded to requests for comment at this time, Jain has denied her participation in any investment round for the company. Earlier reports from Entrackr mentioned Accel’s investment in the GenAI startup, and Sandberg has also invested in another GenAI startup called Ema, which focuses on enhancing productivity in organizations through automated workflows.
