The Mysterious Fireball Lighting Up the Skies Across California to Texas
A perplexing and slow-moving fireball illuminated the evening sky from California to Texas last week, leaving onlookers in awe and disbelief. The identity of this mysterious object remains unknown, sparking various theories and speculation among experts and witnesses alike.
Rebecca Woods, a resident of San Marco near San Diego, captured footage of the dazzling ball of light as it gracefully traversed the sky, leaving a luminous tail in its wake. Initially mistaken for a Starlink launch due to its trajectory, further investigation revealed that no launches were scheduled for that time.
The American Meteor Society received 34 reports of the fireball sighting on July 25 from witnesses in California, Mexico, and Texas. Videos and photos shared on the organization’s website showcase the blazing white ball slowly making its way across the night sky, captivating all those who witnessed it.
Eric Sandquist, a professor and chair of San Diego State’s Astronomy Department, speculated that the object may be Japanese space debris from a previous launch in 2010. The west-to-east trajectory of the fireball aligns with the re-entry of an orbiting object into Earth’s atmosphere, while its slow speed suggests it was not a typical meteor.
Witnesses from New Mexico also reported seeing the object breaking apart, adding to the intrigue surrounding this celestial phenomenon. San Diego police confirmed that the spectacle was not related to Comic Con, dispelling any connection to the popular event that took place in the city over the weekend.
