The Criticism on Abdullah Shafique’s Performance in First Test Match Against Bangladesh
NEW DELHI: Abdullah Shafique faced criticism from former Pakistani cricketer Basit Ali for his underwhelming performance in the first Test match against Bangladesh.
After Bangladesh dominated Pakistan in every aspect of the game, including their decision to declare at 448/6 in the first innings, the tables turned against them.
At Rawalpindi, the team led by Najmul Hossain Shanto achieved a historic 10-wicket victory, marking their first Test win against Pakistan.
With a 117-run lead, Pakistan began to struggle on the fifth day. Abdullah Shafique stood firm and kept scoring runs with Mohammad Rizwan at the other end.
However, Shafique’s dismissal, while attempting a careless shot against Shakib Al Hasan, dashed Pakistan’s hopes.
Basit Ali did not hold back in his criticism, blaming Shafique’s shot for the team’s defeat and calling for consequences.
Another player, Naseem Shah, also received criticism for his reckless shot that cost Pakistan dearly.
In addition to poor shot selection, the inability to read the pitch’s characteristics was a major factor in Pakistan’s loss.
For the second Test on August 30 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Pakistan will aim to level the series.
Overall, the unexpected defeat and poor performances have raised questions about the team’s strategy and selection.
