Dinesh Karthik Clarifies All-Time India XI Selection Controversy
Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter, Dinesh Karthik, recently found himself in the midst of a controversy surrounding his all-time India XI selection across formats. The lineup he revealed omitted the legendary wicketkeeper and captain, MS Dhoni. However, Karthik has since come forward to clear the air and address the oversight that led to Dhoni’s exclusion.
After the episode aired on Cricbuzz, Karthik received feedback that prompted him to acknowledge his mistake. He admitted, “Bhai log, bada galti ho gaya (Guys, I made a big mistake). Genuinely, it was a mistake. I realized only when the episode came out.” The cricketer explained that amidst various considerations, he overlooked including a wicketkeeper in his lineup, assuming Rahul Dravid would fill that role. He expressed regret over the blunder of forgetting to include a wicketkeeper in his team.
Karthik, who himself has donned the gloves for India, had high praise for Dhoni, labeling him as “one of the greatest cricketers to have ever played the game.” He further clarified that if given the chance to redo his selection, Dhoni would be an automatic choice for the No. 7 spot and would also be the captain of any Indian team, regardless of the format.
The all-time India XI selected by Karthik showcases a mix of India’s finest talents across formats. The lineup features Virender Sehwag and Rohit Sharma as openers, with Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar occupying the crucial No. 3 and No. 4 positions. Virat Kohli adds depth to the batting lineup at No. 5.
For the all-rounder slots, Karthik opted for Yuvraj Singh and Ravindra Jadeja, known for their match-winning abilities. The spin department includes Ravichandran Ashwin and Anil Kumble, while the pace attack is led by Jasprit Bumrah and Zaheer Khan. Harbhajan Singh was named as the 12th man for his valuable contributions to Indian cricket.
Despite the initial mix-up in his selection, Karthik’s choices underscore his admiration for the legends of Indian cricket and the wealth of talent the country has produced over the years.
