Adani-Hindenburg Case: Congress Sets Nationwide Protests for JPC Probe
Mark your calendars for August 22nd as Congress gears up for nationwide protests demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Hindenburg allegations against the Adani Group of Companies.
Congress is intensifying its call for a JPC probe following the explosive claims made by Hindenburg Research on August 10th. The allegations suggested that SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch and her husband Dhaval Buch had ties to obscure offshore funds linked to an alleged “Adani money siphoning scandal”. Despite vehement denials from the SEBI Chairperson, the demands for investigation grow stronger.
This decision comes after a strategic meeting led by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge. Together with party leaders, they discussed key organizational matters and election readiness, propelling the party into action.
Kharge emphasized the importance of thoroughly investigating the alleged nexus between SEBI and Adani. He stressed that the financial security of small investors in the stock market cannot be compromised.
Discussions of national importance took center stage as AICC General Secretaries and Pradesh Congress Committee Presidents gathered to strategize for upcoming elections.
Kharge reiterated the pressing need for a detailed inquiry into the connections between SEBI and Adani.
“For the sake of transparency and accountability, the Modi government must act swiftly to demand SEBI Chairperson’s resignation and constitute a JPC,” Kharge asserted.
Congress spokesperson Venugopal confirmed that a collective decision was reached at the meeting to launch a nationwide protest on August 22nd. Their demands include the resignation of SEBI chief Madhabi Puri Buch and an in-depth JPC examination of the allegations against the Adani Group.
SEBI responded on Monday stating that the Hindenburg allegations against the Adani Group had been thoroughly investigated. The chairperson had been transparent in disclosing potential conflicts of interest.
In response to Hindenburg Research’s claims, the Adani Group dismissed them as malicious and rooted in the manipulation of selective information. They denied any business ties with the SEBI chairperson or her spouse.
