The BJP Takes to the Streets to Educate the Masses About Budget 2024-25
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up for a series of nationwide events aimed at enlightening the public about the key features and advantages of the Budget 2024-25, as presented by Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Parliament on July 23. This initiative comes in response to the criticism from opposition parties, who have labeled the budget as ‘discriminatory.’
According to reports from news agency ANI, the saffron party will be hosting these events across the country on the upcoming weekend, July 27 and July 28. Union Ministers and national office-bearers of the party will make their way to various prominent locations to engage with the public and delve into the specifics of the budget. Additionally, Members of Parliament (MPs) will be dispatched to every district where events pertaining to Budget 2024 will take place. A special conference of intellectuals, including representatives from the PHD Chamber of Commerce, is also on the agenda.
“These initiatives are being organized in line with the directives from the party’s national president, JP Nadda,” stated BJP’s National General Secretary, Arun Singh, in an interview with ANI.
The BJP has outlined that the focus of these programs should be on highlighting the budget’s advantages for the underprivileged, farmers, SC-STs, and individuals employed in MSMEs. Furthermore, state units have been instructed to assign a designated office-bearer who will be responsible for reporting on the outcomes of the campaign. Leaders have also been encouraged to utilize their personal and official social media accounts to shed light on various budgetary provisions.
During her record seventh consecutive Union Budget presentation on Tuesday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced a number of notable changes, including an uplift in standard deduction and revised tax rates for salaried individuals under the new tax plan. Additionally, reductions in customs duty for items such as gold, silver, and mobile phones were also disclosed.
However, critics from the opposition have raised objections, accusing the government of only favoring the states of Andhra Pradesh and Bihar, both governed by BJP allies. The Finance Minister’s announcements of substantial financial assistance for Andhra Pradesh and key infrastructure projects for Bihar have drawn mixed reactions.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha on July 25, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju slammed the opposition for playing politics instead of offering meaningful feedback on the budget. “I want to condemn the remarks made by some opposition leaders on the Budget. They have insulted the mandate of the people, which is not right for democracy,” Rijiju expressed in the house.
