Recently, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu made headlines by comparing YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy to the infamous Columbian drug lord, Pablo Escobar. Naidu, who leads the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), accused Reddy of turning Andhra Pradesh into the ‘Ganja capital’ of the country during his time as Chief Minister.
In a bold statement in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, Naidu likened Jagan Reddy to Pablo Escobar, calling him a “Narco terrorist” who amassed a fortune through drug trafficking. He highlighted Escobar’s rise to power and immense wealth, emphasizing their similarities in the world of criminal activities.
Pablo Escobar, also known as the ‘king of cocaine,’ was a notorious figure in the drug trade, accumulating an astonishing net worth of $30 billion before his death in 1993. He commanded immense power and influence, much like Naidu’s portrayal of Jagan Reddy.
Naidu did not mince words when he compared the situation in Andhra Pradesh to the reign of Pablo Escobar, citing the alleged lawlessness and chaos under Reddy’s leadership. The veteran politician expressed shock at the state of affairs in the region, claiming it was unlike anything he had witnessed in his career.
These statements come amid a war of words between Naidu and Reddy, with the latter accusing the TDP government of failing to maintain law and order in Andhra Pradesh. Reddy’s recent letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted his concerns over the deteriorating situation in the state.
Despite the controversies, Naidu’s TDP celebrated a landslide victory in the 2024 assembly polls, capturing a significant majority of seats. The TDP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) dominated the elections, securing 164 out of 175 seats in the state.
The election results solidified Naidu’s position as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the region. With his party’s resounding success, Naidu is poised to lead the state towards progress and development in the coming years.
