Breaking News: Brazilian Supreme Court Orders Suspension of Elon Musk’s Social Media Platform X

In a shocking turn of events, a Brazilian supreme court justice has ordered the immediate suspension of Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, in Brazil. The decision came after the Tesla CEO refused to appoint a legal representative in the country, defying the court’s directives.

Justice Alexandre de Moraes, in his ruling, instructed internet service providers and app stores to block access to X within five days. He stated that the platform would remain inaccessible until it meets his requirements, imposing daily fines of 50,000 reais ($8,900) for those attempting to bypass the block using VPNs.

Furthermore, Justice de Moraes criticized Musk for his blatant disregard for Brazilian sovereignty and the judiciary, accusing him of placing himself above national laws. This decision comes after repeated warnings to Musk regarding the appointment of a legal representative, a requirement that X has failed to fulfill since early August.

The public dispute between Justice Alexandre de Moraes and Elon Musk has been ongoing for months, stemming from X’s failure to comply with court orders to block accounts spreading fake news and hate speech. X alleged that the supreme court justice went as far as threatening its Brazilian representative with imprisonment and freezing her bank accounts after her resignation.

Brazilian users have reportedly sought alternative ways to access X through VPNs following the ban. The trial for X’s suspension is expected to continue until December, with Brazilian authorities closely monitoring the enforcement of the ban and associated fines.
