The Bombay High Court Extends Interim Bail for Naresh Goyal on Medical Grounds
Naresh Goyal, the founder of Jet Airways, was granted a two-month extension on his interim bail by the Bombay High Court on Wednesday. This extension was given on medical grounds to allow Goyal to undergo necessary medical treatment. The 75-year-old businessman, who is suffering from cancer, received his second extension of bail. Previously, on May 6, the high court had granted him interim bail on medical grounds after being arrested in an alleged money laundering case by the Enforcement Directorate. On July 5, the bail was extended for four weeks.
Goyal informed the court that he had undergone a preliminary laparoscopic surgery and required further treatment. His counsel also mentioned that apart from physical ailments, Goyal was battling depression. The Enforcement Directorate’s lawyer suggested that Goyal could receive treatment without the bail being extended, but the court decided to grant a two-month extension.
In September 2023, Goyal was arrested by the ED on allegations of money laundering and siphoning off loans amounting to Rs 538.62 crore from Canara Bank given to Jet Airways. His wife, Anita Goyal, was also arrested in November 2023 when the ED submitted its charge sheet. However, she was granted bail by the special court on the same day due to her age and medical condition. Tragically, Anita Goyal passed away on May 16.
This decision by the Bombay High Court reflects the ongoing legal proceedings surrounding Naresh Goyal and the challenges he currently faces. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
