A Heartbreaking Incident at Carlton Railway Station in Sydney
Tragedy struck a 40-year-old Indian IT professional and his family at Carlton railway station in Sydney when a pram carrying twin girls accidentally rolled onto the train tracks, resulting in the untimely demise of the father and one of the twins. The incident took place around 12.25 pm (local time) on Sunday, sending shockwaves through the local Indian community.
According to reports, the family had just exited the platform lift when a momentary lapse caused the pram to roll towards the tracks. In a heroic effort to save his daughters, the father, Anand Runwal, jumped onto the tracks but tragically lost his life in the process. Emergency services arrived promptly, rescuing one of the twins while the mother witnessed the harrowing event from the platform.
Superintendent Paul Dunstan commended the father’s bravery, stating, “He’s just gone into ‘parent mode’ and tried to save his two young daughters that have fallen onto the tracks and in doing so, it’s cost him his life, but it’s an incredibly brave and heroic act by the dad.”
Despite the heartbreaking loss, one of the toddlers was found unharmed under the train, bringing a glimmer of hope amidst the tragedy. The surviving twin and her mother were rushed to the hospital in stable condition, with the local Indian community rallying around them in support.
The family had recently moved from India to Sydney, where Anand had secured a job at an IT firm. Their dreams turned into a nightmare in a matter of moments, leaving a grieving mother to come to terms with the unimaginable loss.
As the community mourns the loss of a father and daughter, the brave sacrifice made by Anand Runwal serves as a poignant reminder of a parent’s unconditional love and instinct to protect their children at all costs.
