Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal and leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), made a bold statement on Sunday during the party’s annual ‘Shahis Dibas’ gathering in Kolkata. She expressed her willingness to provide shelter to Bangladeshis if they come seeking refuge, citing the United Nations Resolution on refugees to validate her stance.
Her statement comes at a crucial time as Bangladesh grapples with a tragic student protest resulting in numerous casualties. The students are demanding an end to a quota system that reserves government jobs for relatives of veterans from the country’s independence war in 1971.
Despite allegations of surging illegal immigration from Bangladesh by the opposition BJP, CM Mamata Banerjee remains firm in her commitment to assist those in need. She also assured support to West Bengal residents caught in the violence in Bangladesh.
She emphasized her promise to provide cooperation to Bengal residents with relatives facing challenges in strife-torn Bangladesh, demonstrating her commitment to humanitarian efforts across borders.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of Bangladesh recently struck down most quotas in government jobs, signaling a significant shift in the country’s employment policies.
‘No India without Bengal’
Mamata Banerjee’s passionate declaration that “Only Bengal can preserve the existence of India” reflects her strong belief in the importance of her state in the nation’s fabric. She also expressed skepticism about the longevity of the BJP-led government at the Centre, predicting its imminent collapse due to alleged malpractices.
Reiterating her stance, she stated, “You cannot cow us down by misusing agencies. Only Bengal can preserve the existence of India, and without Bengal, there is no India.”
She further added, “The government at the Centre won’t last long. This unstable BJP-led NDA government is unsustainable and bound to crumble soon.”
West Bengal Mob Assault Cases
Addressing the disturbing instances of mob assault in West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee emphasized zero tolerance for injustice. She warned even TMC members of consequences if found guilty, underscoring the importance of upholding the rule of law within the party.
She emphasized the need for TMC members to be allies of the people and urged them to maintain a clean record to avoid complaints. Any reports of injustice or misconduct will be met with swift action, regardless of the perpetrator’s affiliation.
Mamata Banerjee’s strong stance against injustice highlights her commitment to maintaining law and order within the TMC and ensuring accountability among party members.
CM praises Akhilesh Yadav’s ‘khel’ in UP
Notably, Mamata Banerjee praised Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav for his efforts in Uttar Pradesh, inviting him to the TMC’s ‘Martyrs’ Day’ rally. She commended his resilience in challenging the BJP government in the state despite obstacles and alleged malpractices.
Her appreciation for Akhilesh Yadav’s political actions underscores her support for like-minded allies and her persistent stance against oppressive regimes and misuse of power.
